Finally taking the hard way to save the ecologically sensitive areas in Ladakh, the administration- in a first-of-its-kind enforcement drive- has imposed a Rs 50,000 fine on four tourists for violating the Wildlife (Protection) Act, PTI reported. The move was majorly a strong crack down against illegal off-roading in the Union Territory. The penalty was slapped on four separate occasions- making the total to Rs 2 lakh. It was on June 26 that the Wildlife Department of Ladakh imposed the said fines. Reportedly, the offending vehicle owners belonged to Himachal Pradesh, Chandigarh, Punjab and Uttar Pradesh.
