A shocking murder case has emerged from Odisha’s Jharsuguda district, drawing attention amid several high-profile relationship-related crime cases reported across the country.
Police have arrested a woman and her alleged male friend for the murder of her husband in the Rengali police station area of Jharsuguda. Investigators say the duo allegedly killed the man and later dumped his body in a field in an attempt to conceal the crime.
The incident took place in Tunguripada village under Sagarpali. The deceased has been identified as Shaktidhar Sahu, a 38-year-old man originally from Angul district. According to police, on the night of June 23, a heated argument broke out between Shaktidhar, his partner Gita Mirdha, and her male friend Tikinu Kisan. The dispute reportedly escalated due to ongoing family tensions and frequent conflicts.
During the altercation, Tikinu allegedly pushed Shaktidhar to the ground and restrained him. Police claim that Gita then attacked Shaktidhar multiple times on the head using a wooden cot leg. He sustained severe injuries and died on the spot. To cover up the crime, the accused allegedly transported the body and dumped it in a waterlogged pit in nearby agricultural land, hoping to mislead investigators.
The next day, local residents discovered the body and alerted police. A forensic team and dog squad were deployed to the scene. Investigators collected blood-stained evidence and other crucial clues. Acting on technical evidence, local intelligence, and interrogation findings, police detained Gita and Tikinu. During questioning, their alleged involvement in the crime came to light. Blood-stained clothes and the suspected murder weapon were also recovered.
Both the accused were produced before the Lakhanpur JMFC Court on Thursday. A case has been registered against them under Sections 103(1), 238(a), and 3(5) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). Police officials from the Rengali Police Station stated that further investigation into the case is currently underway.
Remarkably, police solved the case within six hours of registering it. Both accused have been produced before court, and further investigation is underway to determine the exact motive behind the murder.
