Speaking to reporters, Trump said the circumstances surrounding the strike remained unclear, noting that multiple missiles had been fired during the conflict. He suggested it was premature to conclude that the weapon involved belonged to the United States.
Appearing alongside the president, US Defence Secretary Pete Hegseth said the Pentagon was treating the incident with the utmost seriousness and confirmed that an investigation was underway. Hegseth added that the findings would be made public once the inquiry was complete, regardless of its conclusions.
However, according to Reuters, two US officials familiar with the investigation believe American forces were the likely source of the strike. The officials reportedly said US military operations were taking place in southern Iran, including in the vicinity of Minab, when the attack occurred.
