A dramatic scene unfolded in Uttar Pradesh’s Maharajganj district after a man allegedly climbed an 11,000-volt electricity pole while intoxicated, leaving residents shocked and triggering a large-scale rescue effort. A video of the incident has since gone viral on social media, drawing widespread attention.
The incident took place on Tuesday evening in Parsa Khurd village, where Deen Dayal reportedly scaled the high-voltage electricity pole and lay stretched across the overhead wires. The unusual sight quickly attracted villagers, who gathered in large numbers below, fearing the situation could turn deadly at any moment.
According to local residents, the man narrowly escaped tragedy as power supply to the line had reportedly been switched off shortly before he climbed the pole. Villagers said the outcome could have been disastrous had the electricity been running through the wires.
With Deen Dayal refusing to come down, police and electricity department officials launched a rescue operation. Bhitauli police coordinated with power department personnel to ensure that electricity to the line remained disconnected throughout the operation.
For several hours, officials, police personnel and villagers tried to persuade him to descend safely. Their efforts eventually paid off, and he climbed down without suffering any injuries, much to the relief of the crowd that had gathered at the spot.
Bhitauli Station House Officer Satyendra Kumar Rai said the man was under the influence of alcohol when he climbed the pole, as per an India Today report.
No injuries were reported in the incident. Authorities said timely coordination between the police and the electricity department helped prevent what could have been a serious accident.
Meanwhile, many users expressed disbelief at the man’s dangerous stunt, while others pointed out how narrowly he escaped a potentially fatal accident. The footage has turned the unusual incident into a major talking point online.
