Construction work on the Central Secretariat Metro station, a key part of the proposed Central Vista Metro corridor, is set to begin on June 24, marking a major step in expanding Delhi Metro connectivity in the heart of the national capital.
The new station will be developed under the R K Ashram Marg–Indraprastha corridor, an extension of the Magenta Line, and is aimed at providing seamless access to the redeveloped Central Vista area, including major government offices along Kartavya Path.
What Is The Central Vista Metro Corridor?
The 9.91-km corridor was approved by the Centre in December 2025 and is expected to improve connectivity for nearly 60,000 government employees and around 2 lakh visitors daily.
The route will include the following stations:
- R K Ashram Marg
- Shivaji Stadium
- Central Secretariat
- Kartavya Bhawan
- India Gate
- War Memorial–High Court
- Baroda House
- Bharat Mandapam
- Indraprastha
Why Is It Important?
The corridor is expected to provide direct metro access to key government complexes and landmark locations in Central Delhi, reducing dependence on road transport and easing traffic congestion around the Central Vista zone.
Officials say the project will also help lower vehicular emissions and improve last-mile connectivity for office-goers and visitors.
Part Of Delhi Metro Phase-V Expansion
The Central Vista corridor is one of three routes approved under Delhi Metro Phase-V(A), a 16.07-km expansion project with an estimated cost of around Rs 12,000 crore.
Other planned extensions include:
- Aerocity to IGI Airport Terminal-1
- Tughlakabad to Kalindi Kunj
Delhi Metro currently operates a network of nearly 395 km with 289 stations across Delhi-NCR and records around 65 lakh passenger journeys every day.
