Harsh Dubey became the latest player to play for India as he was handed his debut in ODI cricket during the 1st ODI between India and Afghanistan at the Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association (HPCA) Stadium in Dharamshala on Saturday (June 13). Harsh is one of two Indians making their debut in the rain-hit fixture, which has been reduced to a 25-over-per-side game alongside Gurnoor Brar.
Harsh, who has never played for India in any format before, was included in both the Test and ODI squad. Manav Suthar got the nod over him in the one-off Test and made the most of the chance with a record-breaking display, which saw him win the Player of the Match (POTM) award.
However, the all-rounder got his chance today with both veteran left-arm spinners Ravindra Jadeja and Axar Patel not picked in the squad.
Harsh Dubey?
Harsh hails from Vidarbha and burst into the limelight after helping his state win the 2024-25 Ranji Trophy title. The 24-year-old took 69 wickets in 10 matches, which is the most by any bowler in the competition’s 92-year-old history.
Harsh made his List A and T20 debut for Vidarbha before making his maiden first-class appearance in December 2022.
Overall, he has played 27 first-class matches in his career and has 133 wickets. In List A cricket (50-over cricket), he has 31 wickets in 30 games. Moreover, he has played 38 T20Is and has 34 scalps. His economy of 4.71 (List A) and 7.57 (T20) in both white-ball formats stands out.
Moreover, he is a handy batter too, with 1096 runs in first-class cricket at an average of 26.65 with nine fifties. In List A cricket, he has made 296 runs at an average of 26.90.
Harsh was signed as an injury replacement (for Ravichandran Smaran) by Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) in 2025 at a salary of ₹30 Lakhs. He played three games last year for the Hyderabad-based franchise and took five wickets. He also played eight games for them in 2026 and got eight wickets.
Since his Ranji Trophy heroics last season, he has been regularly picked in India-A squads across formats.
