Amazon Web Services or AWS has waged a rather strange war on social media by taking shots on one of the strongest pillar of the AI age. In a post shared on X, the Amazon Web Services official account said that producing more code with AI does not automatically make software teams faster and could even slow them down. This post went viral on the platform, garnering 1.2 million views and getting reactions. A lot of users were surprised to see the message from AWS, keeping in mind that its parent company amazon is investing billions of dollars on AI and actively encouraging wider AI adoption across its workforce.
Another user asked, ‘Is this tweet from an intern?’ One of the most likely reactions on the same came from a user who said they had to check multiple times to make sure that the post was actually published by AWS and not a fake handle. The company said that writing code has never been the biggest challenge in software development. Instead, the complex part is getting software rolled out, fixing bugs, and making sure that the systems continue to run smoothly after deployment.
One In Two Americans Worry AI Could Replace A Family Member’s Job
The Amazon Web Services post said, ‘The real bottleneck was never writing code. It’s releasing it, debugging it, & keeping it running well.’ To support the argument, AWS referred to comments from Honeycomb CTO Charity Majors, who stated how her team approached AI adoption. Instead of chasing an ambitious productivity target, she reportedly focused on realistic improvements.
What makes these comments more intriguing is that they come at a time when Amazon itself has been choking the necks of their employees in the name of AI adoption. Multiple reports related to the matter in recent months have also suggested that Amazon is facing growing pressure to use the company’s internal AI tools as the tech giant invests billions of dollars into AI infrastructure.
