In the side-impact test, the Sonet offered good protection for the head and pelvis. That said, the safety to the abdomen was rated adequate. Moreover, poor protection of the driver’s chest emerged as a major concern and weighed heavily on the final score. The side-pole impact test was not carried out because the tested variant did not come with standard side head-protection airbags. Though the Electronic Stability Control (ESC) met the agency’s technical requirements, it was not fitted as standard and therefore did not earn any safety points. The seatbelt reminder system, however, complied with Global NCAP norms only for the driver’s seat. The unstable bodyshell and footwell structure, and all these factors ultimately resulted in the Sonet receiving a 1-star Adult Occupant Protection rating.
