At least 8 workers have reportedly died after molten iron spilled at Rashtriya Ispat Nigam Ltd Steel Plant in Visakhapatnam on Monday. As per reports, five bodies have already been recovered while several other workers are feared dead.
PTI quoted an official saying, “We are undertaking rescue operations. So far, five bodies have been recovered.”
An official note from Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu‘s office said multiple workers were killed in the industrial accident without giving the number of casualties. Naidu expressed deep anguish over the deaths. He directed that all departments should work in coordination to extend help.
According to the police, molten iron spilt while being moved in a bucket by a crane. Police said the molten iron was extremely hot at about 1,600 degrees Celsius.
Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu expressed shock over the accident at the Visakhapatnam Steel Plant. The Chief Minister spoke with officials to review the incident.
He conveyed deep grief over the loss of lives of several workers in the accident. Officials briefed the Chief Minister on the current situation and the ongoing rescue and relief measures.
Chandrababu directed authorities to ensure coordinated rescue and relief operations with the support of all concerned departments.
