Speculation surrounding K Annamalai’s political future gathered momentum on Monday after the former Tamil Nadu BJP chief flew to Delhi and refrained from dismissing reports that he could be preparing to launch a new political platform. The buzz has been building for months. Once projected as the BJP’s most prominent face in Tamil Nadu, Annamalai was replaced by Nainar Nagendran as the party’s state president in 2025 as the BJP sought to revive its alliance with the AIADMK ahead of the 2026 Assembly elections. Since then, Annamalai has largely stayed away from the political spotlight and chose not to contest the Assembly polls.
