In a notice dated May 8, 2026, the NHRC said it had taken cognisance of the matter under Section 12 of the Protection of Human Rights Act, 1993. The Commission observed that the report alleged the existence of a nexus involving school managements, designated vendors and private publishers that compels parents to buy costly non-NCERT books, workbooks and supplementary materials.
