Chandauli: A Samajwadi Party women’s wing leader was allegedly assaulted inside her residence in Uttar Pradesh’s Chandauli district on Thursday. After receiving a complaint, the police reportedly registered an FIR against five accused. Among those who were booked were family members of a former block pramukh.
The assault was captured on CCTV, and the video soon went viral on social media. The victim has been identified as Gargi Patel, district president of the women’s wing of the SP. Patel alleged that she was attacked in her home in Chandauli’s Mandya village, under the jurisdiction of the Mughalsarai Police Station.
As per the police, the woman was assaulted by the family members of Varanasi’s former Kashi block pramukh Pyarelal Yadav. After the assault, the woman was taken to a hospital for treatment.
“The victim has been admitted to the hospital; the Samajwadi Party’s district president was assaulted, and based on her complaint, an FIR has been lodged against 5 named accused ,” said Ananth Chandrashekhar, Additional SP Chandauli Police.
“The victim has alleged some rivalry in the business; a further probe is underway,” he added. According to reports, Vadav had visited Patel’s residence for a meeting to resolve the issue. Yadav’s wife, son, and daughter also reportedly arrived at Patel’s house. Soon the dispute between the two families escalated into a physical altercation.
In the CCTV footage, it could be seen that two women and two men were assaulting Patel, while another person was trying to stop them. The SP was allegedly dragged and then kicked and punched by the accused. After the incident, the SP leader’s daughter informed the police.
A detailed investigation has been launched into the matter. So far, no arrests have been made in the case.
BJP’s Reaction:
Union Minister and BJP’s UP president Pankaj Chaudhary hit out at the Samajwadi Party over the incident.
“SP’s PDA has a new version: Pain, Oppression, and Humiliation… In Chandauli, the female district president of the Samajwadi Party was beaten up by SP leaders in her own home. The very party whose platforms echo with endless talk of women’s honor, social justice, and rights treats one of its own female office-bearers in this manner—revealing that it’s all just empty rhetoric,” Chaudhary said in his X post.
“Wow, what a politics! Grand speeches on women’s honor from the stage, and in reality, this kind of treatment toward a female office-bearer from their own party. It seems like in SP, they blow ‘verbal cotton candies’ way out of proportion. This is their new version of PDA: ‘Pain, Oppression, and Humiliation.’ It’s clear that the SP model of women’s honor is limited to posters alone. The women of the state are well acquainted with this scheme, character, and face of SP,” he added.
