Video of The Incident:
Zojila Pass, located at an altitude of around 11,575 feet, remains one of the most dangerous mountain corridors in the country, with frequent accidents caused by avalanches, slippery roads, landslides, and deep gorges along the Srinagar-Leh highway.
The strategically vital pass connects Kashmir with the Kargil and Ladakh regions and serves as a crucial supply route for civilians and the armed forces.
To ensure all-weather connectivity and reduce accidents, work on the 13-km Zojila Tunnel is progressing rapidly. Officials say the tunnel, which will bypass the hazardous pass, is nearing the breakthrough stage and is expected to significantly cut travel time while providing year-round access to Kargil and Ladakh.
