The deadlock over the broadcasting deal for the tournament in India had come down to the economics. As per a report by Reuters, FIFA had initially demanded $100 million from Indian broadcasters for the 2026 and 2030 editions of the tournament. Later, they reduced the demand to $60 million, which was the same price at which the rights were sold in 2022. The published information also revealed that Jiostar has been in negotiations, but they have only offered $20 million. Sony also held talks as per the same report but decided against making a bid.
