At the time of his death, Nishimura had just finished his latest film, Geisha War. The film is expected to see wider distribution posthumously. Set in Tokyo’s historic Yoshiwara district, Geisha War revolves around a violent power struggle between Japanese yakuza groups and the American mafia over control of the area. The film reportedly blends samurai-style action, gangster warfare, splatter horror, and Nishimura’s trademark extreme practical effects, that mixes violent action, surreal imagery, dark humour, and stylised horror elements.
