France’s #MeToo Schools Scandal: Nearly 100 Child Abuse Cases Under Investigation

Paris prosecutor Laure Beccuau said investigators are examining nearly one hundred reports connected to alleged misconduct by school monitors, adults employed by local authorities to supervise children during lunch breaks, naps and after-school activities. Several cases have already progressed through the judicial system, with five individuals summoned to court as investigations continue. The scale of the allegations has shocked France and triggered questions about recruitment standards, supervision procedures and institutional oversight within the country’s education sector.
