Meteorologists have connected the extreme heatwave conditions to delayed pre-monsoon activity and dry northwesterly winds impacting large parts of the country. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued heatwave alerts for several states between May 24 and May 28. Apart from Telangana, severe heat conditions are also expected in Rajasthan, Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, Haryana, Punjab, Chandigarh, Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh and parts of Maharashtra during this period.
