uidai extends the free aadhaar update deadline by one year june 14 2027 details inside

The Unique Identification Authority of India (Unique Identification Authority of India) has given Aadhaar holders more time to update their documents online without paying any fee. The authority has extended the free Aadhaar document update service available on the myAadhaar portal for another year, offering relief to millions of users across the country. Earlier, the no-cost update facility was scheduled to end on June 16, 2026. With the latest extension, users can now upload and update supporting documents online free of charge until June 14, 2027.

The online document update service, which previously required a payment, will continue to remain free exclusively through the myAadhaar portal.

According to UIDAI, “It has been decided to extend the facility for one more year, i.e., from June 15, 2026, to June 14, 2027. Accordingly, the facility for document update shall continue to be free of cost till June 14, 2027.”

The move is expected to help Aadhaar users maintain accurate and updated identity records in the central database. UIDAI has consistently encouraged individuals, especially those who enrolled for Aadhaar several years ago, to refresh their proof of identity and address documents.

Aadhaar Users Can Update Documents Online Without Charges

The free facility applies only to online updates carried out through the myAadhaar portal. Aadhaar holders can upload identity and address proofs digitally without visiting a physical enrolment centre in many cases.

However, some changes still require in-person verification. Biometrics such as fingerprints, iris scans and photographs cannot be updated online. Similarly, corrections related to mobile numbers, gender, name and date of birth still require users to visit an Aadhaar Enrolment Centre.

The authority has also advised users to ensure that uploaded files remain under 2 MB in size and are submitted in accepted formats, including JPEG, PNG or PDF.

mAadhaar App To Be Phased Out Soon

In another important update, UIDAI announced that the existing mAadhaar application will soon be retired. Aadhaar holders are being encouraged to move to the newly launched Aadhaar app, which offers upgraded features and a more streamlined experience.

The new application includes QR-based Aadhaar sharing, stronger privacy protections and easier access to Aadhaar-related services.

The development was shared through an update posted by UIDAI on X, formerly known as Twitter.

How To Update Aadhaar Documents Online

Users who want to update their Aadhaar-related documents online can follow these steps:

  • Visit the myAadhaar portal and log in using the Aadhaar number and OTP received on the registered mobile number.
  • Verify the identity and address details displayed in the profile.
  • If the information is correct, confirm the details and proceed further.
  • Choose the identity proof document from the available options and upload the file.
  • Select the address proof document and upload it in the prescribed format.
  • Submit consent and complete the request online.

The extension is expected to benefit millions of Aadhaar users who have not updated their records in recent years and wish to avoid paying update charges.
