After constant surveillance, based on a secret source information, a team from NIA conducted raid in Kolkata and finally placed him under arrest. According to the NIA source, Riaz was arrested under sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, the Official Secrets Act, and the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act. Source in NIA claims, the arrested accused is married to a Pakistani national and his children are also Pakistani citizens. NIA source also claims, this is not his first arrest, rather Riaz was earlier held guilty in an espionage case under the IPC and Official Secrets Act.
