Why the Extension Matters
The US is pushing to keep the Lebanon ceasefire going for two reasons. First, it gives Washington and the two neighboring countries room to advance direct Israel-Lebanon peace talks. Second, and perhaps more urgently, a fresh flare-up in Lebanon would complicate the already fragile effort to reach a broader deal with Iran.
