Speaking to Cinema Vikatan, RJ Balaji said that Karuppu is designed as a full-fledged commercial entertainer meant for family audiences. He said that working with a star like Suriya requires a complete package action, emotion, romance, humour, and mass appeal. Produced by Dream Warrior Pictures under SR Prakash Babu and SR Prabu, the film has music composed by Sai Abhyankkar, while the screenplay has contributions from Ashwin Ravichandran, Rahul Raj, TS Gopi Krishnan, and Karan Aravind Kumar.
