Marvel Studios boss Kevin Feige has revealed a big change in how the studio plans to roll out its future films. At Comic-Con, Feige confirmed that there will be no MCU movie releasing between Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars. This means fans will have to wait a full year without a single Marvel film in cinemas. The studio also announced two major projects for 2028.
No MCU Film Between Doomsday And Secret Wars
Feige confirmed that after Avengers: Doomsday releases this December, there won’t be another Marvel movie until Avengers: Secret Wars arrives in cinemas in December 2027. This creates a rare year-long gap in the MCU’s usually packed release calendar.
Explaining the decision, Feige said the studio wants to focus on quality rather than releasing too many films back to back. He mentioned that spreading out projects too much can dilute their impact, something Marvel wants to avoid going forward.
He also called Secret Wars extremely important, not just as a big Avengers event, but as a story that sets up what’s coming next in the MCU.
Marvel’s 2028 Slate
With no MCU film releasing right after Doomsday, all eyes are now on 2028. Kevin Feige confirmed two films for that year so far, Black Panther III and a brand-new Ghost Rider movie starring Ryan Gosling.
Black Panther III will introduce David Jonsson in a new role. Feige described it as a traditional MCU film at its core, while still bringing something new to the table for longtime fans.
The Ghost Rider reboot came as a surprise announcement, with Ryan Gosling stepping into the role and Shawn Levy directing. Feige hinted that more films for 2028 could still be announced, leaving fans curious about what else is coming.
Gosling revealed he had wanted to play the character for years and personally pitched the idea to director Shawn Levy while working together on another project. Levy then brought the pitch to Marvel, leading to the big reveal on stage.
Avengers Doomsday Set For Mega December Release
Before the year-long gap begins, Avengers: Doomsday is set to arrive as a massive December release. The film is expected to bring together a huge ensemble cast, making it one of the biggest Marvel events yet.
The biggest talking point remains Robert Downey Jr, who is returning to the MCU not as Iron Man, but as the villain Doctor Doom. The Russo brothers, who earlier directed Infinity War and Endgame, are back in the director’s chair for this film too.
