Jhandu hails from Bihar and was born in Harnaut, which is in the Nalanda district. He is the son of a vegetable vendor, who has battled polio since his birth. He had to sell vegetables as a child while also working as an e-rickshaw driver during COVID to support himself and his family financially, as the family’s vegetable shop shut down in the pandemic. His career as a para athlete started in Athletics by competing in shot put events in the F55 category, where he won several medals at the distrct and state level.
