Congress’ Mallikarjun Kharge raised the paper leak in the Rajya Sabha, saying thousands of students at Jantar Mantar had been lathi-charged. Opposition members were on their feet shouting “shame, shame” before the House was adjourned. The Lok Sabha was adjourned four times on day one. The next day the protest moved to the prime minister’s gate; big leaders like Rahul Gandhi, Akhilesh Yadav, Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, among others, put up a dramatic dharna and were later “forcefully” removed and detained and released after it was captured and noticed by all. But by then, the students’ assault, students’ protest and their misery was secondary and the few hours of ‘dharna’ took over the month-long protest of students. On Wednesday, adjournment notices were moved again in both Houses.
