New Delhi: Three members of a family, a 40-year-old woman and her two young daughters aged 12 and 8, were found dead after a fire broke out in their third-floor apartment at Jor Bagh in south Delhi on Tuesday morning, police said.
The Delhi Fire Services received information about the fire at approximately 10:26 am and rushed to the spot along with police. The blaze was brought under control with the assistance of fire tenders. The three deceased were found inside the apartment.
The deceased have been identified as Akansha Sharma, 40, and her two daughters Aradhya, 12, also known as Mitzy, and Mihika, 8, also known as Ritzy.
Family Present In Building; All Angles Being Probed
According to the police press note, other family members, including Akansha’s husband Mohit Sharma, an advocate, were present on the second floor of the building at the time of the incident. Preliminary inquiry has indicated that Akansha had been undergoing treatment for a mental health condition since 2020, police said.
The District Crime Team and the Forensic Science Laboratory team have inspected the scene. Police said no signs of foul play have come to notice at this stage, though all angles are being probed. The exact cause of the fire is under investigation and will be communicated after further examination.
The family has been informed and is being offered assistance by local authorities. Further updates will be provided as the investigation progresses, police said.
