The US Department of Defense has identified two American service members killed after an Iranian strike targeted a military base in Jordan, as the death toll from the escalating conflict with Iran continued to rise.
The Pentagon said 1st Lt. Tyler James Feehan, 25, of Ewa Beach, Hawaii, and Pvt. Isabella Gonzales, 19, of Carrollton, Texas, were among the US troops killed following Friday’s attack on Muwaffaq Salti Air Base in Jordan.
According to the Defense Department, Gonzales died on Friday, while Feehan succumbed to his injuries on Saturday. Both soldiers were supporting a US mission against the Islamic State at the time of the attack. Officials have not yet disclosed the exact circumstances of their deaths.
Feehan was assigned to the 2nd Battalion, 55th Air Defense Artillery Regiment, 32nd Army Air Missile Defense Command at Fort Bragg, North Carolina.
Gonzales served with the 1st Battalion, 57th Air Defense Artillery Regiment, 52nd Air Defense Artillery Brigade, 10th Army Air Missile Defense Command based in Ansbach, Germany.
The Pentagon also said US personnel recovered unidentified human remains at the site of the strike in Jordan, suggesting that additional casualties may still be under investigation.

In a statement released on Saturday, the US military said four other service members wounded in the attack were transported to hospitals in Jordan for treatment. Another troop received treatment for minor injuries and has since returned to duty.
US Central Command later confirmed that a third American service member was killed over the weekend, although the Pentagon has not yet released that individual’s identity.
Officials said the third death occurred on Saturday in Iraq during the controlled detonation of unexploded ordnance from a downed Iranian one-way attack drone. A second service member suffered minor injuries in that incident and was receiving medical care.
The Jordan strike marks one of the deadliest recent attacks on US forces in the Middle East and comes amid rapidly escalating hostilities between Washington and Tehran.
The US military has said the total number of American deaths in the war with Iran has now reached 17, while hundreds of additional service members have been wounded since the conflict intensified.
Pentagon officials said investigations into both the Jordan attack and the Iraq drone incident remain ongoing.
