COVID-19 never truly disappeared, it gradually became part of the infections we live with as our immunity, through vaccination and prior infections, learned to recognise and fight it. That is why the emergence of new cases should not trigger panic. Unlike in 2020, we now understand the virus far better, have effective treatments, vaccines and clear prevention strategies. The focus today should be on awareness, sensible precautions for those at higher risk and timely medical care. Vigilance remains important, but alarm is not.
