Current US law requires universities to disclose foreign gifts and contracts exceeding $250,000. However, lawmakers are considering the Deterrent Act, which would lower the reporting threshold to $50,000, and potentially eliminate the threshold entirely for donations originating from countries considered US adversaries, including China. The legislation has already passed the House of Representatives and is awaiting Senate approval.
