Bollywood director Anurag Kashyap has shared his review of Prithviraj Sukumaran’s latest Malayalam thriller I, Nobody, praising the film for its engaging story. Soon after its theatrical release, the director took to Letterboxd to express his admiration, calling it a gripping watch that keeps audiences gripped from start to finish. The film directed by Nissam Basheer tells the story of a government employee whose life changes after stolen cash goes missing, and those around him accuse him of taking it. The film explores political struggle and the trouble the family goes through.
Anurag Kashyap Loved Prithviraj Sukumaran’s I, Nobody — Except for This One Thing
Sharing his thoughts on Letterboxd, Anurag Kashyap gave I, Nobody a positive rating and applauded its mainstream storytelling. He wrote, “Loved it. Keeps you hooked from beginning to end. It’s more mainstream and thrilling.”
However, the filmmaker mentioned that one element took him out of the experience. He mentioned that the idea of an ordinary man taking on multiple goons at once felt unrealistic, though he believed mainstream audiences would likely enjoy it. “Only thing that bothered me… is a common man fighting so many goons at the same time. Nevertheless, a total ride around greed, public and media trial and policing and politics of it all,” he added.
I, Nobody Records Steady Box Office Collections
The positive word of mouth has also been revealed the film’s status at the box office. According to Sacnilk, I, Nobody collected an estimated Rs 2.22 crore net in India on its second day, registering a slight growth over its Rs 2.20 crore opening-day collection. The film’s two-day India net collection now stands at Rs 4.42 crore, while its India gross has reached Rs 5.13 crore.
The film’s first half has emerged as the biggest talking point among early viewers, with many praising its engaging narrative and technical execution. One fan wrote, “Excellent First Half. Making, Performance, Fight Choreography… No Lag Till Now. Waiting To Start Second Half.” Another user shared, “Solid first half for #INobody. It leans hard into the drama, but that’s exactly what makes it so gripping. The craftsmanship is top-tier.” Several viewers also appreciated the film’s measured pacing, mentioning that it takes time to establish its characters and conflicts instead of rushing into action
This is also not the first time Anurag Kashyap has praised a Malayalam film in recent weeks. He had earlier appreciated Mollywood Times, directed by Abhinav Sunder Nayak and starring Naslen, describing it as a filmmaker’s dream and commending its mix of realism and idealism.
