India Notifies Process to Claim UK FTA Vehicle Import Benefits – Check Details Here

India has notified the official process importers must follow to claim reduced import duties on UK-built cars under the India-UK free trade agreement which takes effect from 15 July 2026. The Finance Ministry’s Customs Tariff Rules set out how goods qualify as UK-origin, while the commerce ministry’s e-TRQ system handles the actual quota licence applications importers need before customs will apply the lower rate. For Indian buyers, this matters because it confirms the mechanism, and not just the headline duty cuts, is now in place and it explains why some UK-built models may get cheaper only gradually and only up to a fixed yearly import limit.
