Funemizu, the 32-year-old Japanese player ranked No.25 in PPA doubles with 2,800 points, paired up with budding Hawaiian talent Tama Shimabukuro. In the main draw, they defeated Yoshida-Kurosawa 11-3, 11-8 and Shaffer- Navratil 12-10, 11-3. In the other semifinal, experienced Collin Johns paired up with 22-year-old Len Yang, ranked No.32 in doubles. The duo made strong progress in the main draw with key victories against Hatakeyama-Leung and Brown-Narayanan.
