President Donald Trump called FIFA President Gianni Infantino directly and requested that he review the decision because he felt it was harsh. During a press conference, Trump even acknowledged contacting Infantino and justified his action. FIFA’s disciplinary committee appeared to give in to pressure in a decision that shocked veteran football administrators, supporters, commentators, former players, and even managers of rival World Cup teams.
