Scott’s argument was direct. The Florida senator said the United States “needs to remember who Pakistan really is in the middle of all this”, before pointing to Osama bin Laden’s presence in Pakistan, the country’s blasphemy laws and Sharif’s remarks about Khamenei. Pakistan, he argued, was “no better qualified to ‘mediate’” the conflict than Qatar.
