Purnima Kothari’s brothers, Ram Kumar Kothari, 22, and Sharad Kothari, 20 — VHP members and RSS swayamsevaks from a Marwari family in Kolkata’s Bara Bazar — were among those killed when Uttar Pradesh police, under the Mulayam Singh Yadav government, opened fire on kar sevaks on November 2, 1990. Poornima was invited to both the 2020 foundation ceremony and the January 2024 consecration.
