Cow Slaughter Ban Row: Tamil Nadu Says HC Went Too Far. Supreme Court Will Now Decide

The government further argued that the ruling runs contrary to the Tamil Nadu Animal Preservation Act, 1958. Under the law, cows above a specified age and those that are permanently unfit for breeding or agricultural work may be slaughtered subject to certification by a competent authority. The state said existing laws regulate when, where and under what conditions animals can be slaughtered, but do not impose a total ban.
