After more than a year away, Shubman Gill returned to the 2025 Asia Cup T20I squad last year, this time as the team’s vice-captain. The Indian selection committee removed him from the squad after he failed to reach a half-century in 15 innings; thus, he did not make the cut for the T20 World Cup earlier this year. Gill continues to be a strong performer in the IPL, where he finished with 732 runs from 16 innings—the second-highest of the season—despite his less than modest returns at the international level.
