To trap the suspect, Army officials invited him to deliver a motivational speech to young candidates preparing for recruitment examinations inside the cantonment. Following questioning, Verma and his associates were detained. A search led to the recovery of a fake Army identity card, forged Government of India documents linked to the Army, Army insignia and badges, a uniform, an Army baton, a replica pistol, a mobile phone, Aadhaar and PAN cards, and the Tata Harrier vehicle fitted with military markings.
