Chanakya, also known as Kautilya or Vishnugupta, is widely credited with mentoring Chandragupta Maurya, the founder of the Mauryan Empire, over the 4th century BCE. Politics, economics and governance were his scholarly strongholds culminating in the ancient centre of learning at Takshashila. Personally, he is best remembered for the Arthashastra, which encompasses matters of statecraft, administration, diplomacy and economic policy. More than 2,000 years later, Chanakya’s teachings are as insightful as ever.
