Two motorcycle-borne assailants allegedly opened fire outside a gym in Delhi’s Paschim Vihar area in the early hours of Thursday, with a social media post later claiming the attack was carried out by members of the Lawrence Bishnoi gang.
According to police, as cited by PTI, the attackers arrived on a motorcycle at around 4 am and fired at least seven rounds at the fitness centre before fleeing the scene. The incident came to light around 5.15 am when caretakers reached the gym and alerted authorities.
No injuries were reported in the firing. Police, as per a report by PTI, said the gym is owned by two residents of Rajouri Garden and has a well-known Punjabi singer as its brand ambassador.
Following the incident, forensic teams were deployed to examine the crime scene, while investigators began scanning CCTV footage from the surrounding area to identify the shooters and trace their escape route.
Soon after the firing, a social media post surfaced in which the Anil Pandit group of the Lawrence Bishnoi gang allegedly claimed responsibility for the attack. Police said they are verifying the authenticity of the claim and probing the motive behind the incident.
Officials said all possible angles, including extortion, gang rivalry and personal enmity, are being investigated. A case has been registered, and efforts are underway to identify and apprehend the accused.
Further investigation is in progress.
