Gurugram Police have arrested a 23-year-old man for allegedly poisoning and killing his five-month-old son born out of a live-in relationship, reportedly because he was unhappy about the child’s birth, officials said on Tuesday. According to police, the incident dates back to January 5 last year, when the infant was taken to a hospital in Gurugram and was declared dead by doctors. The child’s mother had filed a complaint alleging foul play by her live-in partner.

In her complaint, the woman stated that she had been in a live-in relationship with the accused since 2023, and a male child was born from the relationship. She further alleged that frequent disputes began after the child’s birth.

Child Taken To Hospital, Declared Dead

On January 5, 2025, the accused allegedly took the baby with him and later returned, saying the child was unwell. The infant was then taken to the hospital, where doctors declared him dead.

Police said the woman alleged that her partner may have administered a poisonous substance to the child or caused his death by other means.

After a prolonged investigation, the accused, identified as Vikramjeet (23), a resident of Hisar in Haryana, was arrested in Gurugram on Monday.

“During interrogation, it was revealed that the accused, who was married, started living with the complainant in 2023. A child was born out of the relationship, leading to frequent disputes between them.

“The accused was unhappy about the birth of the child and had also pressured his partner to terminate the pregnancy. The accused has disclosed that he administered a poisonous substance to the 5-month-old child, resulting in his death,” a Gurugram Police spokesperson said.
