The vessel is expected to arrive in Visakhapatnam on June 3, providing a notable sign that commercial shipping continues to move through the strategically vital waterway despite heightened regional tensions. Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps said it facilitated the transit of 23 commercial vessels through Hormuz during the previous 24 hours following what it described as formal coordination with Iranian naval authorities.
The development comes as Tehran and Washington remain locked in a dispute over navigation rights in the Gulf. Iran recently established the Persian Gulf Strait Authority, while the United States has demanded unrestricted access through the waterway and imposed sanctions on the new body. US President Donald Trump reiterated this week that the Strait “is going to be open to everybody”, amid continuing negotiations over a broader agreement with Iran.
According to the International Maritime Organization, nearly 1,500 vessels remain stranded in the Gulf because of the ongoing crisis, underlining the global economic significance of any disruption to shipping through Hormuz.
