The students alleged that they were verbally abused and physically attacked with punches, kicks, stones, bricks and sticks. They also claimed that students, including women, were chased across the campus and that some sought shelter inside the library, where the librarian was allegedly assaulted. The Union further alleged that students’ clothes were torn and phones were forcibly taken, before police were alerted and reached the institute. The Students Union said it issued the statement to document its version of events and counter what it described as misleading accounts circulating online and in sections of the media.
