The attacks killed 2,977 people at the World Trade Center, the Pentagon and near Shanksville, Pennsylvania. But alongside the enormous story of those who died is another, quieter collection of stories: people who were supposed to be somewhere that morning, but weren’t. A meeting was postponed. Someone stopped for coffee. Someone was running late. Someone made an apparently insignificant decision that shifted their morning by minutes, and, in doing so, changed the rest of their life.
