Something unusual is happening in the run up to this year’s midterms. Six states that Republicans have long treated as safe territory, Alaska, Kansas, Iowa, Mississippi, Nebraska and Texas, are now genuine question marks. Axios reports that GOP strategists still expect most of these seats to settle back into familiar red patterns once votes are counted, but nobody in the party is treating that outcome as guaranteed.
