Research on Aedes aegypti, the mosquito species responsible for transmitting diseases such as dengue, chikungunya and yellow fever, has found differences in how mosquitoes respond to different human blood groups. However, there is no universal scientific rule saying that mosquitoes always prefer one blood type. A 2022 study examining Aedes aegypti found the mosquitoes showed a preference for blood group B in controlled laboratory experiments. The same study found that mosquitoes fed on blood group O had the highest digestibility, while those fed on B showed the highest feeding rate and reproductive measures.
