NASA Finds Some Earth Microbes Could Survive On Moon’s South Pole

Astronauts might be carrying something with them to space they might not be aware of. According to NASA research, scientists have found that some microbes from Earth may have survived for at least a day in certain harsh, shadowed areas near the Moon’s South Pole. This study was published on August 19, 2026, in Science Advances, highlighting growing concerns about contamination as humans prepare for longer missions to the Moon.
