Following the boy’s death, NCP MLA Shankar Mandekar faced criticism over his comments on the condition of Pune’s roads. Speaking about the accident, Mandekar reportedly said, “When there are roads, accidents happen.” His remark was widely criticised as insensitive, particularly as the accident occurred on a damaged road.
