Two people have died and hundreds of residents have been forced to flee after two separate wildfires broke out almost simultaneously on the Greek island of Salamina, near Athens, officials confirmed. The first fire was reported at 2:40 PM local time near the island’s southern coast, and strong winds helped it spread quickly. Roughly 20 minutes later, a second fire broke out to the east, according to a statement from fire official Vasilios Vathrakoyannis, cited by BBC News.
