explosion at industrial park near tehran injures 18, damages emergency base

At least 18 people were injured after an explosion ripped through the Shamsabad Industrial Park near Tehran on Tuesday, according to Iranian emergency officials.

Shervin Tabrizi, spokesperson for Tehran province’s emergency services, said four of the injured were taken to medical centres for further treatment, while the remaining victims were treated at the scene or sustained minor injuries.

Blast Damages Emergency Services Base

Tabrizi said an emergency services base located near the industrial park also sustained damage in the explosion. However, no emergency personnel were injured because they were away responding to another mission when the blast occurred.

Authorities have not reported any fatalities.

Explosion Linked to Factory Tank

According to Davoud Vali, a board member of the Shamsabad Industrial Park, the explosion originated from an internal tank at a factory in the park’s aluminium manufacturing section.

Iran’s state news agency IRNA reported that the explosion occurred at the Aluminumkaran Industrial Park in the Fashafuyeh area, south of Tehran. The blast triggered a large plume of smoke that alarmed nearby residents and prompted an emergency response.

Industrial Park Has Been Hit Before

The Shamsabad Industrial Park has previously been affected during earlier periods of regional conflict, although officials have not suggested any link between Tuesday’s explosion and recent security developments.

Authorities are investigating the cause of the incident, and no further details have been released.
