bengaluru woman lists down problematic ‘spending habits’ of bengalurians; ‘look for flat worth rs 20000 not 40000 viral video

Mostly, the advice of ‘saving as much money as possible’ is something that is appreciated; however, when this Bengaluru woman did something similar, what followed was an unimpressed response from most netizens! Confused as to why? Well, a content creator– Simridhi Makhija- recently took to her social media handle and called out the “spending habits” of Bengalurians. She allegedly started observing the said habits after moving to Bengaluru merely seven months ago. She first called out the need to spend as much as “Rs 5,000” in a single sitting at a cafe, followed by choosing to live in a flat with “Rs 40,000” as monthly rent.

She then stated her third point, which was about spending an amount as high as “Rs 20,000” in shopping in one go.

Makhija then moved on to advise people in their early 20s to focus more on “saving” and settle on “bare minimum” expenditure. “In your early 20s, your focus should be on saving money, and that does not mean that if your income goes up, your standard of living should also go up. Spend only on the bare minimum, and save as much as possible because the times ahead are very, very unpredictable anyway,” the creator said.

The video went viral; however, the responses were hardly positive. Most pointed out that finding a place for “Rs 20,000” near one’s office is “not possible” in Bengaluru, while others instead shared their two cents on savings and expenditure.

Internet’s reactions:

“Honey, stick to communication, you are good at it. Don’t get into finances and economy, you are doing a bad job… Numbers dont add up just becoz they are said with confidence,” a user said. “In Bangalore it’s important to live close to the office, travel from far is not possible, rents near office complexes easily touch 40k for 2 bhk,” added another.

“I would say it’s quite the opposite.

20s: Maximize earning potential.

30s: Balance earning, investing, and wealth building.

40s: Focus more on preserving and growing wealth,” commented another.
